Balaton disaster management allocated HUF 1bn until 2019

 

The disaster management system on western Hungary's Lake Balaton was allocated 1 billion forints (EUR 3.2m) of European Union funds, head of the security authority of the Balaton Development Council (BFT) said in a statement.

The popular holiday destination’s storm alert system and the surrounding villages’ firefighter equipment and vehicle fleet are to be revamped from the funds, which are to be rolled out until mid-2019, Péter Jamrik said.

 

Further plans to boost security around the lake, which have yet to be funded, include revamping police equipment, developing lifeguard services, centralising water police and extending the local meteorological service’s operation for the full year, Jamrik said.
