The National Bureau of Investigations (NNI) will investigate a student organisation linked to radical nationalist party Jobbik, which kept a database including personal details such as sexual orientation and political affiliation on people studying at Budapest's ELTE University.
ELTE's head on Wednesday suspend its main student self-governing body, HOK, after details of the database on first year students emerged.
HOK's head has admitted that the body violated data protection laws and suspended its operation until investigations are concluded.
The database is said to contain details of students' political views and party affiliation, religion, racial origin, and sexual orientation.
Political parties condemned the list.
