Budapest to join World Tourism Cities Federation
The Metropolitan Assembly unanimously decided on Wednesday that Budapest would join the World Tourism Cities Federation (WTCF) headquartered in Beijing.
The federation aims to enhance cooperation between tourist destinations, popularise urban life and tourism and encourage the development of habitable cities. It also promotes joint research projects, an internet platform for marketing and releasing information, and cooperation with the civil and the business sectors.
Membership in WTCF may have a favourable impact on tourism in Budapest even in the short run, the assembly concluded.
Members of the federation are expected to include Amsterdam, Barcelona, Berlin, Brussels, Buenos Aires, Cairo, Dubai, Dublin, Jakarta, Lisbon, Los Angeles, Moscow, Ottawa, Riga, Rome, Sapporo, Seoul, Vienna and several Chinese cities.
