The Hungarian American Coalition (HAC), an interest group for the Hungarian-American community, has voiced its concern over criticism in the US and European media of the Hungarian government.
"We are deeply concerned by the tone of the harsh criticism in the mainstream US and European media towards the Hungarian government," the HAC said in a statement, a copy of which was sent to MTI on Saturday.
The HAC said Green and Socialist members of the European Parliament had "launched an attack" against Prime Minister Viktor Orban because of an "allegedly undemocratic" media law. Hungary's new constitution has been criticised and the European Commission has threatened sanctions if Hungary does not amend cardinal laws approved earlier by parliament, it added.
The coalition said that the Orban government, which has a two-thirds majority in parliament, had been "falsely depicted as anti-democratic, dictatorial and untrustworthy".
