Programmes organised by Hungarian representations in Vienna this year will be built around the birth centenary of Raoul Wallenberg, the Danube strategy and sports, officials of the representations said at a press conference on Wednesday.
Events will start with a concert of the International Danube Philharmonic featuring Austrian, Hungarian and Slovak solo performers at the Hungarian embassy on Wednesday evening. The orchestra is composed of musicians representing countries along the Danube river.
In the spring an exhibition and a book launch will be organised to mark the 100th birth anniversary of Raoul Wallenberg. The Swedish diplomat saved the lives of tens of thousands of Jews in Budapest during WWII. Events in his memory will be organised throughout the year.
As 2012 is the year of the Olympics and the European soccer championship, a Hungarian-Austrian sports exhibition will be organised in April.
Speaking about the two countries' tourism aspects Balazs Toth representing the Magyar Tourism agency in Vienna said that Austrian visitors spent a record 764,000 guest nights in Hungary last year and the number of Hungarian guests in Austria exceeded figures of the previous years, too.
