Changes to heritage protection law to make archeological excavation rules simpler

The amendment proposal debated by parliament on Wednesday aims to prevent any delay that the uncovering of unexpected archeological heritage would entail when it comes to large investment projects involving large-scale preparations, Simon said.

In an effort to improve the maintenance of historical buildings, it will be easier for owners who cannot afford to keep the buildings in a good state of repair (therefore subjected to fines) to sell them. The planned amendments also include the introduction of stricter sanctions on the illegal use of metal detectors and making the Szechenyi castle complex in Nagycenk and the Szigetvar fortress national heritage sites, Simon said.
